COTD – 9th July 2011 – Professor Oak’s New Theory
Today, my pick is one of the few form of draw support we have in this format, Professor Oak’s New Theory, or PONT as it’s nicknamed.
PONT is a supporter that allows us to shuffle our hands back into the deck and draw 6 new cards. Not only is this great if you have a low hand, but if you have a pretty rubbish hand, you can get rid of it via this card to hopefully get something better.
I played this card quite a bit last format and it provided some really nice refreshing of the hand when playing against trainer
lock, but this format it has gone from strength to strength, quickly becoming one of the main ways of cycling through your deck to grab what you need.
Compared to the alternatives such as Juniper, CopyCat and Judge, PONT performs really well seeing as you can keep the cards you need for later on in the game and shuffle them back in to get something you can use now. It provides you with a really nice amount of cards when you most need it and shuffle draw is really strong in this format without having any consistent draw that is splashable in every deck.
Overall, PONT is one of my favourite ways of refreshing the hand so far and provides you with a way out of a bad hand when Cleffa isn’t the best option to go with. I’m going to give PONT 8/10. A great card that can easily be maxed out in many decks to give it that extra boost it needs to get going, fast.
