COTD – 27th July 2011 – Ditto TM

My choice for Card of the Day today is Ditto from the HS: Triumphant set.

Ditto comes in Colourless form, has 40HP, a single attack and just the one Poke Body. At a first glance, Ditto really doesn’t look impressive, but it does have a fairly interesting Poke Body that is verging on being competitive since it’s attack really isn’t worth looking at.

‘Dittobolic’ is a Poke Body that restricts your opponent’s bench size to 4 rather than the usual 5 which can really restrict what your opponent plays and make them think twice before benching anything for the duration of the game. This can be useful in some situations, but with Ditto having to be benched on your side as well, it effectively restricts yourself to just the 4 useable spaces as long as you are making use of its Poke Body.

So what’s bad about Ditto? Well, pretty much everything else. Having 40HP is one of its biggest flaws now that Yanmega is such a big play right now since it can be KO’d straight away by a swift ‘Linear Attack’ as soon as Ditto hits the field. This makes Ditto pretty useless since it will only be effective for a single turn before it gives your opponent a free prize.

The only thing I can really think it will be good against is Cincinno decks, but there aren’t really any decks that solely run Cincinno, so they will probably have another way of taking prizes regardless of bench size. I guess when the Fire Formation Victini comes out in the future it could be vaguely effective in that match up, but anything else it will just be a free prize for any other deck.

So overall, I’m going to give Ditto a very low 3/10. It has no real use in this format yet and is just not durable enough to be a worthy Pokemon in any list right now.

Thank for reading today’s COTD and make sure you comment below what you think..

I feel like he can be a pretty interesting card in lostgar variants as well, even as a one of. Restricting your opponent to only 4 bench spaces, especially in a crucial moment can help tip the game in your favor by giving you more pokemon available both in your opponents hand, and in his/her deck to access with a “Spooky Whirlpool” or through the use of a “Sleepy Lost” at some point in the game. Although lostgar variants are not the best, I feel this card has a small place in them if used smartly.

personally, running this card next to seeker would be great since it forces your opponent to remove 2 benched pokemon from play and it brings ditto back into your hand thus freeing you bench for a new pokemon
