COTD – 8th September 2011 – Interviewer’s Questions

Hey everybody, not long ’til the guest Card of the Days begin, but for now let’s look at Interviewer’s Questions from the HS: Unleashed expansion.

At first glance, we’ve got ourselves a Supporter card that allows us to look at the top 8 cards of our deck, choose as many energy cards we find there and place them into our hand. So we get to look at a nice chunk of our deck, just one more than the likes of PokeGear 3.0 and it can grab us more than one of the selected target we find there, in this case Energy.

A rather fetching plus to this effect is that it only states ‘energy’ not just a certain kind, meaning that this Supporter can search the deck for Double Colourless Energy, Rescue Energy and any other kind of Special Energy in the current format. Even though the likes of Double Colourless really isn’t abused as much as it was last format, this could still be a pretty nice option to have during the game.

Where Interviewer’s Questions seems to fit in is the likes of Blastoise/Feraligatr, where you need to get multiple energy out onto the field as soon as possible to get attacking right away. However, we all know that Blastoise really isn’t played at the moment, but it’s still a fairly strong rogue concept and this card is one that makes the deck fast enough to keep up with the rest of the format. Other decks that come to mind that need fast energy include Emboar and possibly some Floatzel variants to get that energy on the field ASAP.

However, cards like Double Colourless are used sparsely in this format at the moment and even though there isn’t any effective way to search out Double Colourless, decks don’t really need it right now badly enough to warrant the use of the all-important Supporter for the turn. Decks that involve Zoroark and Cincinno already run a ton of draw Supporters to get those cards they need fast, so they don’t really need Interviewer’s Questions to get the Double Colourless.

Overall, this card has a nice effect, but it doesn’t really warrant the use of a Supporter in the turn instead of the likes of Professor Oak’s New Theory or Professor Juniper. I’m going to give it a rather average 5/10. It can be used in a very small array of decks that need energy fast, but other than that, it’s too specific and slow for the competitive world at the moment.

Artwork: As for artwork, this one is pretty interesting for a Supporter. We see a character based on the game thrusting a huge orange mic almost out of the card frame, just itching to ask the user a question. I’m not really sure how the interview character relates to the whole energy effect on the card, but it does look really nice as a piece of art. The Leafeons in the background add a nice little bit of detail to the artwork and the dots for the crowd are, interesting to say the least. I’m going to give it a solid 8/10. The artist clearly has put some effort into this card art, but I’m not sure of the link between the effect and the character. Very interesting..

Thanks for reading today’s Card of the Day and please vote what you think about the card below with the star system :)
