COTD – 18th July 2011 – Pokemon Collector

My choice for today is Pokemon Collector from the HeartGold SoulSilver Base Set and is also available from the HS: Trainer Kits which are a great buy for this format if you’re looking for great staples like Pokemon Communication, Copycat and these.

Pokemon Collector is THE staple of the current format. Having 4 of these is almost a must in every deck, but they can get by with just the 3. This card, as I’m sure most of you know, allows you to grab up to 3 Basics from your deck and place them into your hand.

This card is essential in counts of 4 at the moment because getting those Basics onto the bench on turn one is absolutely crucial. Since you have to wait for normal evolution and Rare Candy now, getting those Basics down before your opponent really is going to help your game.

This card also works well with Pokemon Communication later on in the game, so it isn’t always a ‘dead draw’. You can go ahead and grab some Basic Pokemon just to Communication away for the ones you desperately need at the current state of the game. Great when you’re holding Rare Candy and just don’t have the Stage 2 yet.

There’s not a whole lot to say about this card, but it is one of the heart of every single deck in the format and I personally prefer this over Dual Ball. If you like Dual Ball and put it into most of your decks, then a 3-3 split of each is great to get them out, but I just don’t like the flippyness of them right now since it adds to the amount of flips in a game.

Overall, an absolute essential card right now so I’m going to give out my first 10/10. We wouldn’t be able to get going without this and it isn’t too bad to Junk Arm away later on either ;)

Thanks for reading and comment what you think below :)
